For the record, this winter has sucked balls. Maintaining humidity in a desktop humidor when it is negative temperatures outside and your heat is running damn near constantly is just about impossible. I have a half lb of 65% heartfelt beads in in both of my desktops (I know, overkill much?) but it can still barely manage 62% and dries out in two weeks. My tupperdor, however, rock solid. I know it's just the wood contracting because the ambient rH is so low, but it is still annoying. Rant over. :banghead:

Get a cooler. Desktop goes in the cooler. Problem solved.
This is what I usually resort to in the winter. Each time I've ordered beads I grab about twice the recommend amount, I have a nice supply now that can easily be moved around whenever needed. I'll put in just enough beads for the cooler size, then put the humidors in with the appropriate amount of beads as well. Doesn't look fancy, but works pretty darn good. Another benefit to this approach is that I've never found myself in scramble mode due to grabbing too many sticks with not enough storage, just a few minutes of shifting beads and containers and I'm good to go.

I have my humi's inside another box that's lined with kitty litter so that the RH is higher outside my humi's... which helps. A lot!

I am not a fan of tupperware. Not that it doesn't work. It does. I just have the tendency to forget about things for periods of time and I have lost sticks to tupperware and it's inability to breath.

Lol. I don't have that problem with Tupperware only because I can stop myself from taking a big whiff of that tobacco/barnyard aroma.

Tupperware isn't for everybody but I do use it quite a bit because it works...you only have to pop the top once every two weeks for a quick exchange of air and you're good. Leaving cedar inside helps regulate the RH....kitty litter is my choice of media and I just dial in what percentage I like and life is good.
