another shooting... WTF??

i was out of town, else i would have responded. sitting at DFW airport, when i get a text from my counterpart asking me what is going on.

the gist,,, man shoots 10 mo old,,, mo-in-law,,, and el cajon police officer. lights house on fire. shoots at SWAT... they find two charred bodies in house,, one baby in car.

i haven't received an update on the officer.... last i heard, he was in an induced coma.

the video in the news release is pretty graphic, showing the shot officer.

Just awful. I'm sick over that 14 month old losing her life like that. What a total pos that "dad" is. I pray there's a special place for him. Keeping the officer in our prayers. In my 13 years in LE, this is the most violent year I've seen.

You can just blame our countries weak judicial system. Bad people don't have to fear a harsh prosecution. They'll get three warm meals a day, a bed to sleep in, TV, Radio, and o-yea...a college education! All on taxpayers dime and with good behavior get out in half the time to go and hurt someone else.

Can almost guarantee this is not a factor in this case Cig. This guy went in with the intention of offing himself but chickened out. That's why he would have been shooting at the swat guys. They call it suicide-by-police essentially. You know they're going to be shooting back.

This is one of the reasons I quit a successful law enforcement career. Court is a revolving door. There is no longer any deterrent for committing crimes in this country. Someone molests a child and they get probation. You can get 12 DWI's without doing any jail time. In Missouri you can get multiple DWI's and kill a MSHP Officer and only get probation. That is what a life is worth here - A smack on the hand.

I don't think you really can. You think this guy looked up multiple homicide in the legal code, looked at the penalty, weighed his options and figured "yeah, alright, i guess it's worth it" before he started shooting?

That statement is the same sort of knee-jerk fallacy as "If we took people's guns away these sorts of violent incidents wouldn't happen."

This is truly unbelievable and tragic. I feel somewhat sheltered from this form of violence, until you read something like this and it makes you wonder. Glad to here that the officer is doing well.
