Am I the only guy out there that consistently screws up on Valentine's Day? After 15 years of marriage you'd think that my wife would realize I'm not a romantic (in fact I don't have a romantic bone in my body, but it's not for lack of trying) and would set her expectations a little more realistically. One of these days I'm gonna remember to set something up. Unfortunately, in my house there's no "A" for effort. Hope you all had some better luck than I did.

Think of some romantic ideas. Put them in an alarm on your phone to go off next Vday (or other important date of romantic significance) and you'll remember to do something good. But I agree, at least you got somebody to spend the day with!

If you aint cheatin you aint trying! No I don't mean cheatin on your wife. I mean...since you already know you dont have the romantic bone, pick up a GQ magazine or something and just steal their ideas. May not be original but she won't be let down. Oh, and put your own spin on it!

Ted, did you tell her that you were going to Outlaw for a while and would grab pizza on your way home, even though it's valentine's day and you should be really bringing chocolates, roses and KY Warming Gel and not smell like an ashtray?

Damn Ted, that sucks for you! You need to enlist one of the kiddo's to help you out on this one next year.

For us, after all these years of being together 24X7, we have given up on most of these holidays. Now they are just excuses to do things we already plan on doing. Valentines day this year was her getting a purse she was going to buy anyways, and the big dinner is just one we were already discussing. Of course, we'll do it all at a date that's more convenient for us anyways.

get her a card and flowers because she is expecting them.

Romance is defined as:

"fanciful; impractical; unrealistic"

bring her flowers some random time in next month to be spontaneous

I hear ya. Don't get me wrong...I'm romantic in my own way, but it's not shelling out $100 for roses and jewelery kind of romantic. I'm more of a realistic person and those $100 roses are going to die in a week, then what do you have to show for 'em?

 Uhm, that's where I'd be if I could've been. Instead I made dinner and the wife got boozed up and passed out on the couch.

My wife and I don't celebrate Valentine's Day, or exchange gifts on birthdays/holidays/anniversaries. It's great, and we have a happy, healthy marriage.

Similar...no cards...what we do is go with each other and buy our own stuff. I pick out my cigars, and she picks out her purses, etc.
Or go on a trip for anniversary, that's our gift and it works well for us.
