I mean, there has to be a good group that plays/has played, right?

Anyway, I've been playing for about a year now, maybe a year and a half and now I get to finally play outdoors for the first time this year on Saturday. Also got rid of the cage and put a visor on my bucket!

All bout dat puck life.

Been playing since I was little. Played high school and could have played college if I didn't fuck off in school. Club hockey for me now.

Since I have no life outside of work, the gym and cigars, I play for 4 men's league teams in 4 different leagues. Average 4-5 games a week. Never had the opporunity to play in my youth, taught myself to skate at age 29.

I played on all the local ponds as a kid growing up in Jersey, didn't matter how cold or how thin the ice was. Then I moved to south and for some reason the ponds don't freeze over down here.

Played as a kid, have been reffing minor hockey for the past 4 or 5 years. Great way to stay involved in the game and do a little good for the community.

Played all throughout school and then played off and on in leagues in AZ. Haven't played in about 5 years though. Definitely want to get back into it once I get back to the states.

Playing outdoors.....YES PLEASE!

Not a hockey player, but I like to skate around & shoot pucks with the kids(both my kids play). Helped coach my daughters team last year. Had a great day on a pond yesterday, though I gave up my stick to a kid that forgot his.

I’m on a stinking high from last night. After literally years of telling my kids that I was going to start playing, last Tuesday I picked up what remaining gear I needed(pants, jock/cup, elbow, chest and socks/jersey) and started looking at options to get on the ice. I turned in my Rookie League application yesterday at noon & received a phone call at around 5:15 saying that if I could make it, I’d been assigned to a team that was playing at 7:30 PM. Though I was admittedly nervous, more just not exactly sure what I was getting into & didn’t know one person, I decided “rip the Band-Aid off” and headed to the ice center, after a quick trip to the hockey shop to pick up a cage. I had been wearing a visor and after taking a HARD STICK to it(my son last Friday), I wanted full face protection in a game situation.

It’s not like I haven’t been on the ice a bit. My son has been playing for over 10 years(an ‘96 and will play next year in DII of the ACHA), my daughter for over 4(an ’05 will play her 2nd season with a Squirt A team next year). I’ve gone out with them at S&P, youth drop in(just helping out) & even helped coach for a year. But I’d never actually played, Hell, I didn’t have a full set of gear until Thursday of last week.

Anyway, I had soooooo much fun. Good bunch of cats on the team, I guess on the ice in general. My son even came out to watch, which was a nice touch. My only disappointment is that I have to wait until next Monday for another game…..well, and that even though I bought skates, gloves, stick ect 10ish year ago…it took me all this time to actually go all in.

I grew up in Minnesota and played some, but of all things, my town was too small to have a team!?!

This is one of my buddy's rink... he lives on the lake. :)

I will add, I grew up along a small river. My birthday is in January so when I was a kid, I would have hockey birthday parties where we simply cleared away a good size area on the river and skated and played hockey. Was pretty fun.

Awesome! I have been wanting to get into a league but I have only played street hockey as a kid. I need to find something that would help me from the group up type thing.

You should see if they have something like a "Rookie League" or the like near you. One of the reasons I did this, was the word of mouth I have heard of the Rookie League here. I have friends that play and have tired to get me out there, but I just didn't feel comfortable enough in my feet to just get out there with real "players." This this appears to be a solid way to get my feet wet.

Dropped down to 3 teams for the Spring/Summer league, so I am averaging about 4 games a week.

The team I run won our 4th consecutive Fall/Winter championship back in March.

(I'm 3rd from the left on top).

Sweet rink !!!

Played in my youth. Im 43 now, so I decide to jump into a "mens" league team. Turns out, 18 and 20 year olds are also considered men. That didnt work out too well for me, so Im done. Played two games, ended up in the ER the first game, second game, concussion. I had to face the facts, Im not young any more. So now, I just watch. Lets go Flyers.....Yeah RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!
