So, I'm not sure if I asked this before, so please forgive me if I did. I'm trying to find out the best way to go about learning to speak Spanish. That is one of my top goals for 08 and I'm not sure where to start.

College courses?
Rosetta Stone?

My job would like more Spanish speaking employees (of course) but won't put up the cash so that we can learn??? Bass Akwards!

I did come across a podcast called Coffee Break Spanish which I'll probably start today, but any other ideas would be great, even if it isn't Spanish. I'm just trying to find out the best most cost effective way to learn another language.

Thanks Gentlemen! (or should I say Gracias!)

You can use audio tapes and some classes to learn. I will download some spanish tapes online and make you a CD. I don't mean to be a party pooper but, learning spanish so you can get by in SOCAL or in Mexico as a tourist is far different than having conversations in spainsh. II probably have over 100 vocabulary words and know how to conjegate verbs and structure sentences in spanish, This mean I can pretty much order what I want in a bar or restaurant, and get directions if needed. If I had to do my job in spanish I would be completely lost. Conversational Spanish is an advanced college couse that comes after several years of learning the language. I think the tapes or CDs are the best wya to start. But they will only give you basics.

i have rosetta stone on my computer and it works really well. you dont memorize or translate in fact they dont even tell you what they mean in english. you learn like you did as a baby from observing and listening. i would go with this if you could

What a coincidence! I just downloaded Rosetta Stone today. PM me and I'll get you a copy of the Spanish program.

The best way to learn Spanish, or any language is to live in the country and only speak it. JMHO... Or have the Government (like the USMC) make you learn it for a special assignment. lol

I agree, speaking 3 languages, spanish included, the only way to really learn... speak it with people.
THat rosetta sounds good if it teaches like a baby, listen and connect words to meanings,

...which is what my daughter is doing at present - spending a year in Spain!
I`ve heard good things about Rosetta Stone.

yep but you should be able to function if you know proper but you may look a little stuck up but you should be able to pick up on the slang pretty quick if you learn book spanish.
