I'm looking for an *empty* 48ct Liga Privada #9 box. My husband needs a new humidor (got him some cigars for Father's Day and his tiny humidor can't hold them) and I think it would be cool to have one made out of a cigar box. Liga Privada are his favorite cigar and the box is beautiful. I may have to give up on the idea because the 48ct is the only box that would be big enough and it is proving to be very difficult to find. If anyone has one sitting around or has ideas where to find one I am hoping to purchase one soon.

Thanks for reading!

Welcome to the forums!

First off, I think it's awesome that you're supporting your husband's hobby...especially going so far as to gift him a humidor and knowing his favorite smoke. You could REALLY surprise your significant other and get him a wineador:laugh:

Thanks for the welcome! I was a little intimidated to post on here. I stumbled on this site during my search and thought someone might be able to help me out since I'm not having any luck with stores or eBay. Been told I won't find that box since they're so rare, but I know they're out there so it's worth a shot.

You're pushing my limited cigar knowledge a little with the wineador - had to google it. I'm not sure I want to be THAT supportive. :)

They do look nice, though...maybe in a few years. For now he keeps a small cigar collection (which I'm sure will grow once he has a decent humidor) for smoking with his buddies and some of the guys in the family.

BTW, this is a great site you guys have here. I'll have to pass it on when I finish my search.

If you watch craigslist you will find a much better price. You will actually probably pay less than the Liga box you are searching for. I found several for free earlier this year.

as another vote for the winedor camp, as many have a more modern look to them (black, silver trim, whatnot) it would be real easy to get some LP art transferred onto it, like maybe the sides, or glass front of the door?

lovely gift idea, and good luck on the hunt!

I haven't specifically seen the 48 count liga box-but if it's anything like almost all the rest of the cigar boxes out there-it isn't meant to be a humidor. I don't think it would have the proper seal required to keep his cigars properly while they were inside there.

If you want to buy something that won't get wasted in the future, as he expands, look into a travel case. The hard plastic travel humidors are great even when you are not traveling. A 30 count case can hold over 50 cigars with the foam removed-and you won't need to worry about the foam if he isn't moving the case around much.

There is always the other options of tupperware, or coolers, but personally-I want my cigar furniture to be nicer looking.

MrsB - I have a 48ct LP9 box in my humi, but it's nearly full. :) I don't think it would be worthwhile to try and make a humi out of it since it was never made to be anything more than a cigar box - no airtight seal for starters. That's why the new boxes are wrapped in cellophane. I second the idea of hunting craigslist for something in your price range, there are absolute steals out there. Some even come full of cigars. Rare but happens.

Appreciate the suggestions fellas! I am a huge fan of Craigslist, but the main goal is for a unique/personal take on the traditional humidor. The wineador is a good idea for sometime down the road, but it would be a little overkill for the present - we don't have the space or the need yet.

TravelingJ - the travel humidor is a good tip and I suppose that's what I'll do if I fail in my search. My husband travels a lot for work so he would always have a use for it.

LPFanboy - any chance you smoke about 40 cigars a week? :)

I agree that the seal is a concern. The idea with the cigar box is to gut the inside (remove the divider and current lining), line it with 1/4" Spanish cedar and install a hygrometer that is visible from the outside (he can always add a digital hygrometer later if he wants). I have a friend that is good with woodworking and says it can be done. Hopefully someday I'll be able to upload some pictures of the finished product. :)

I would say to get the larger LP box, throw a hygrometer in with some beads or boveda, and see what happens! Maybe put some yard gars or cheap sticks and see how they feel after a few days. If it doesn't hold up, you can always go the travel humidor route.

BTW: if you can't find a 48ct here, try calling one of of the larger LP accounts and see if they have any empty ones lying around they can ship to you. Maybe Cigar King?

If I were you and didnt want to go to wild but still wanted the same look, I would go with a 75-150ct Humidor from somewhere on the internet and then have it painted or in some way decorated to resemble a liga box... Like many have said, using the 48ct box even though its lined with SCedar isnt really going to do great at keeping in the humidity, also Ive seen the 48ct boxes and that isnt really a big humidor.... So yea thats my .02 haha hope it helps

Good News: I have no problem getting you a 48-ct LP box, just email me your ship to address... nice of you to try to do this for your hubby.

Bad News: It definitely will not work as a humidor - no seal whatsoever and even if you could resolve this, it will warp over time if the humidity inside the box is higher than humidity outside the box. Regretfully it is just not designed to be a humidor... :<

Hmmm, maybe I should make a LP Humidor - might be kinda cool.

MrsB717,

Mr Saka is responding to this thread... you must of made an impression!! FYI finding Liga cigars are becoming hard to find as well so buy them for your husband when you see them (especially the T52).

I'm in Albquerque right now and several shops have them while the whole state of Louisiana has zero...lol.

BTW, the box itself is cool to display!!

DUDE. I got a great idea. Get a natural-wood humidor like this...

...and brand it with the UC, and LP logos, the same as you do the boxes.

Guaranteed instant sell-out!!!

When the president of the company says it won't work, it's probably time to give up. :) Still can't stop thinking of ways to make it work. I may be as stubborn as my husband says. If you are willing to send a box I would be very happy to have something to show for all the searching. My husband is a huge LP fan and will love it. Worst-case scenario it's still a great looking box where he can keep all his other cigar stuff. You should definitely make a LP humidor - though I may be biased towards the idea.

BTW, very cool of you to reply to my post.

Thanks everybody for your input.
