I don't think the 10mm ever found the special place it was supposed to find. Be careful about what pistol you choose, most of the early 10mm's were not designed for the round, and were 45 frames pressed into service for the newest thing. Glocks are good, don't get a 1911 style. 10mm today is not as strong of a factory load as when they first came out, and are not as hard on handguns. I worked as a gunsmith back when they first came out and saw way to many pistols breaking parts.
If you are looking for a hotter handgun, consider the 357Sig swap with a 40cal barel, or a 460 Rowland top for a 1911 as other good choices. With either you get a cheap easy to find range option. The 460 Rowland is better round than most for large game, but no pistol that dosn't way as much as a large rifle is a good idea to go looking for bear with.
I'm not down on the 10mm as a whole, the Glocks are good and if you can find some reasonable range ammo or don't shoot often, and have a need for magnum power. For me I have a 400 Corbon barel when I want a a magnum auto loader and can practice at the range for a fair price with 45's. Don't still recomend the 400, great round, but is being replaced by the 460 Roland.
