I've been fishing for pretty much my entire life and have recently taken an interest in spearfishing.
A friend of mine has been doing it for a couple years now and always has space on his boat. I made one trip with him, borrowing some extra gear he had and loved it.
I'm in the market for some equipment and just wanted to see if anyone has any knowledge on the subject.

I plan to stick to freediving exclusively since it will be more challenging than scuba, and require a lot less gear. We will mostly be diving 30-80 feet wrecks and reefs but will also be shooting some open water Pelagics from time to time: Mahi, Cobia, Wahoo, etc...
I was thinking of starting out with either a Rob Allen or Mako, somewhere in the 120-140 CM range.
Anyone have any input?

I tinkered around with spearfishing years ago when I was much more heavy into scuba.. didnt do a whole lot of it though... maybe went 20 times tops... but had a blast every time..

I just had a simple cressi 115cm gun... cant remember the model... did everything I needed it to though..

Looks like fun. I'd like to try it one day. I'd also like to catch a tarpon, bonefish, and permit...that's on my bucket list.
