Anyone still got LP9 ORs? What do you think?

Back in 2010 I picked up a 48ct cab of LP9s from the original release. I remember Saka mentioning somewhere that he wouldn't advise smoking these sticks past 3 years old...have to look that up but AFAIK that's what he mentioned. Anyway, they went through a sick period from mid-2011 to mid-2012 where they just tasted like a red wine tannin-y mess. So as of today I still have half the cab left.

Mine have since almost magically cleaned up. The flavors of fresh LP9s are abundant if not MUCH stronger than before. The tannins are all gone. Finally. In fact, I'm smoking a UF-4 right now after a OR9 and can't help but think how mild it is in comparison.

Anyone else still have OR9s care to comment on how they are doing? Similar/different experiences? I'd like to hear.

VERY good to hear because all my LP9s are smoking quite poorly right now. I've been pretty upset that I didn't smoke them while they were still good, it's nice to know that they will come back around!

It sounds like I better start burning my 9's ASAP! I have about half a box sitting in the vinodor aging. This afternoon I'll try one and report back.

I've finished of my cab, and I have to say that I never experienced the sick period. That seems awfully late in the process for that to happen but there are always mitigating factors. I found mine to be very flavorful with no sharp edge to them. I've found dirt rats to be the same. Still flavor forward but less strong. For those that like the power, I wouldn't advise aging. Smokem now! Personally I enjoy them both ways!

What I have found is that--for me, obviously--LP#9s are great in the first 9 months or so, and after that they need to sit for about a year more (so 18+ months total, post-release) in order to show the "aged" qualities. In the interim, I find them to be ... well, flat. They don't have the punch of the freshies, or the flavor-bomb and sweetness of the aged ones.

I love them fresh, and aged. But in the middle ... I let them sit.

I got my hands on several ORs about a year ago. I thought they were somewhat muted, kind of flat. Maybe I hit them at a bad time, but IMO the T-52 does the best with age. Compared to the 9. I've put away a box of UF-13's to see how they are in a few yrs. we'll see.
