I've never been into the awards ceremony ... perferring to vote with my wallet by seeing good movies, recommending them and then buying / renting the DVD. I found it interesting that I have yet to see any of the movies that won any part of the categories this year. I guess my Netfix queue will change over the next few months.

Babel
The Departed
Dreamgirls
Happy Feet
Inconvienent Truth
Last King of Scotland
Letters from Iwo Jima
Little Miss Sunshine
Marie Antoinette
Pan's Labyrinth
Pirates of the Caribbean
The Queen

The Departed and Pan's Labyrinth are worth seeing. Same with The Last King of Scotland as Whittaker delivers an EPIC performance as Idi Amin.

Babel was good, albeit a clusterfuck. Letters from Iwo Jima is on my list to watch, and maybe The Queen.

Little Miss Sunshine was just a weird, quirky movie. Not my cup of tea.

Everyone i've spoke to who has seen Pan's Labyrinth has said it was excellent.

The Departed was a great movie, maybe not Goodfellas great, but definitely worth seeing.

I slept through Pirates at the theater (it had been a long day). Watched The Departed and it was a good movie. Don't know that it was Academy Award good, but it was good.

IMHO Hollywood tends to be less objective with their awards and more politically correct. The Departed probably won because there was so much buzz about Scorsese never winning.

I also believe that everybody that voted for the Oscars is privileged and they feel a certain guilt about that. They seem to try to assuage that guilt by getting behind "feel good" issues like global warming and that's why they backed Inconvenient Truth. They voted the message and not the art.

Well, that's my opinion.
