A mere 33 feet? Heh... Besides, I might get out to Cancun or the Virgin Islands once in a while, but south of NZ absolutely never. It's COLD down there. Interesting story though...
On the regular tentacles they'd get to be about a foot or so across on a squid that size, but only nearest the body. They get smaller the farther away from the body they are. A size exception may be on the two long feeler/catcher tentacles, which might have a few that are even larger.
Interesting little fact here that's squid related. When viewing the night-time earth from high orbit, can you guess where the brightest spots of man-made light are located? <G> Out in the middle of the Pacific on the Japanese squid fishing fleet. Brighter than any city.
