When I first heard this recording I thought it was another example of how condescending and arrogant some teachers can be but I have to admit when it was over I laughed and shook my head in agreement. Having served on a school board I've met my share of parents that this could have been tailored to.

I have no idea if this really happened but if it didn't maybe it should.

If you want this in another language, move to a country that speaks it. Thank you for your interest in public education.

What caused the school to do this?
Maroochydore High School, Queensland, Australia, staff voted unanimously to record on their school telephone answering machine. This came about because they implemented a policy requiring students and parents to be responsible for their children's absences and missing homework. The school and teachers are being sued by parents who want their children's failing grades changed to passing grades - even though those children were absent 15-30 times during the semester and did not complete enough school work to pass their classes.

Actually kind of sad that students who would have passed, were failed simply over attendance.
Not really IMO, I've fired people that were excellent at what they were hired to do because of poor attendance. Better they learn in HS than later on when they have mouths to feed.

Thanks for setting the record straight as to the origins of this.
