I frequent Cigar king every time I go to Phoenix. There giant walk in is always full and they have a TON of stock in their warehouse. Seriously it's massive. I wanted to try out another store when I went to Phoenix today. I saw a video online about 2 years ago and it looked amazing, their humidor was just as large if not larger than cigar kings, so I though what the hell. Granted I found a couple things there that are HTF and I was Very pleased, plus they offered a discount for my box purchase, very much appreciated. But for that size humidor the thing was practically empty. It was kind of disappointing to say the least. Why do you think this is? Economy? Cigar king has all the customers? I was just kind of amazed at the amount of space not being used.

Just be thankful that you have access to a great retailer that you can visit in person. I have to buy all of my cigars online (welcome to the Golden State). I envy you, brother :)

Don't get me wrong brother, I come from a small Alaskan town where CAO's and Punch Granpuros are the cats meow. I'm very greatful for what I have. Just strange seeing such an empty humidor. Time of year maybe ?

I lived in Anchorage for two years during high school. I loved the Great North!

Maybe CK's Brandon will chime in here? It's a retail business, so the stock may vary. It's good people though, I can attest to that :)

Rotation of stock and waxing/waning of product is natural due to slow and busy times for any shop (golf season vs. winter) but an almost empty humidor is usually a bad sign. Less product= less sales, even in the lean season you want to already have the regular sellers stocked to keeps sales as high as possible without purchasing more.

Is the shop brand new? or on the way out maybe?

just my thoughts; never like seeing that tho.

It was Tinder Box, I went to 2 locations. One in Mesa, & one in Phoenix someplace, It was the largest of the franchise. Both where rather scarce in product, especially in Mesa. That location didn't have much but some of the new HE by DE. the other had a hand full of HTF Tat's. I was thankful for both.

With the permission of whoever I need permission from, and no offense to cigar king or Brandon, but ambassador cigars earned my business. Flat out one of the best stores in the valley

Interesting. I used to spend time there when my daughter lived in Mesa. They have a great backroom club. Tinderbox was always more about selling accessories than having a large number of sticks IMHO. All that room was to show pipes, boxes etc. plus to bring in the customers. Cigar King in the beginning was the humi, lots of shipping and eight chairs in the first TV room. Focus was on cigars.

I can't comment on other stores, both for my lack of knowledge on their business and out of respect for their business, but I will say we are happy to see BOTL faces anytime they can come by. I will say, here in the Valley of the Sun, summertime is obviously our slow season as 110+ isn't really conducive to outdoor smoking. Fall through Spring, especially with MLB Spring Training so heavy here, every store sees a lot more traffic. My answer wasn't much help, I'm sorry for that, but I don't want to step on toes of any of our friends in the Valley.

For the PHX area, I stick with Cigar King, Fine Ash, and Fair Oaks. There are some other decent places, but that's what I frequent most.

I went to school in Phoenix about a decade ago and remember a store in the Metro called Holy Smokes. I remember their walk-in was a pretty decent size. But I've done some looking around recently and can't see any info on them being still around. Did they go under or get booted out since they were in a mall?

If you ever make it down to Gilbert check out Fox Cigar Bar. They have a great walk in, fair prices, and wait for it.... a full bar. It's so nice to have a good craft beer and smoke. I've been finding some good stuff at Big Stick Fine Cigars in Mesa too. The new owner is really trying hard to turn the place around.
