I purchased online a 5er of a house blend. They were packed uncelloed in a sealed bag. However, one of the sticks had two beetle holes. I contacted the retailer and they said to throw that one out and they'd send a replacement. Is that right or should they have sent a new 5er? What are teh chances that the other four are contaminated/infested? Did the retailer do right or did they only do 1/5 right??

And it's pretty obvious that the two holes didn't get there prior to shipping, unless the beetle was like hiding in the bag, so, like how did they miss that or did they not and just send it out anyway??? Who does that???

If you had said they came back with oh hell FREEZE the rest, then I'd say no biggie, but they didn't as far as I can tell, so apathy isn't cool.
That's why I said what I did. Sending another stick with larva is skeery.

Lots of cigars have larvae in them, it's just a reality of using natural leaf. I've had My Father cigars with beetles.

It's only a problem if they hatch. If you freeze, the larvae is dead so that won't happen. Retailers have no way of knowing if a particular cigar has beetle larvae. Since they're made in large batches in factories, you could have four clean sticks and one with larvae. The seller is doing the right thing offering to replace the stick.

Since none of the other sticks had holes and were subject to the same conditions, they're probably clean. I'd still freeze as a precaution, but I already freeze everything that comes in anyway

Toss the stick, freeze the other four, and call it a night.

It's no big deal. If they're willing to to replace the one that's damaged, I think that's fair enough.

Keep the rest separate from your other cigars
It happens when shipping in the summer. It seems to happen a lot more with local rolls and house blends as most of those don't freeze before leaving the favorites. I'd freeze whatever they sent me and keep them isolated. I'd probably smoke them soon rather than holding onto them, but that's probably just a mental thing.
