Hey guys,

I am celebrating tonight with a bhk 52 for the birth of my son last week. However, after smoking this, I find that the flavors are very similar to the Don Pepin El Centurion Torpedo. What do you guys think? Does the El Centurion have the same taste as a Cohiba?

I posted about the El Centurion a couple months back. I'm a big Pepin fan and really never heard much about the cigar so I've been interested in trying them. I checked my local B&M who usually has a decent selection of Pepin's but no luck.

It was an LE (albeit a fairly large one) back in '08 I believe. It'll be tough to find them in a B&M now, you might get lucky so it's worth a look.

They were really strong when they first came out, but with age have not only toned down but have developed a nice caramel and nut flavor, among other things. I can't really compare it to a Behike, though. As they are currently, they remind me a bit of the Padilla Miami 8&11 (as it smokes currently), which Pepin also made around the same time. I just had that thought yesterday as I was smoking an 8&11. Both cigars have aged wonderfully.

The only thing I've seen Pepin do in recent years that reminded me of this was the Mi Barrio, though that stick is more tangy leather as opposed to straight pepper. But as they age they are developing a similar caramel-and-cream sweetness.

Haven't smoked the Behike, but the El Centurion is my favorite DPG made cigar ever! Now I need to go find some 8&11's. I smoked them like 5-6 years ago and they were strong, but the flavor was there as well. I am sure they have aged tremendously well.

Smoke the Centurion awhile back, and remember it being quite complex for an NC. I have a box of 52's relaxing, but not going to spark any up for awhile...

If I remember right, Pepin said that he blended the El Centurian to mimick Cohibas from the 80's or something to that effect.

The El Centurion's were Pepin's first LE release, and they were boxed and sent out during the 4th Quarter of 2007. 38-50 is correct about the blend mimicking old school Cohiba's. Boxes can be found, but your are going to pay $200-$235.

3 1/2 years later the El Centurion's have mellowed. I smoked 15 of those tasty bastards this past week. A box showed up at my local liquor store...WTF. Grabbed what I could (15) at $8.99 per stick.
