Hey brothers, question is I want to get my buddy cigars for his birthday but I don't know if I should go one way or the other. Do I a) buy him one cigar that is way out his price range ex. Padron 80th that he would never buy himself or b) three or four smokes that he has never tried but some day might buy. I am giving him some other cigar related stuff as well as the smokes(s). Just wanted your thoughts, if this were you which would you like better? Thanks in advance brothers!!!

Take advantage of the occasion; I always try to go for something a little to expensive on my birthday. Grab two and have a great smoke with a fellow cigar smoker, especially if your already getting him other things as well.

Personally I would pickup two good/great cigars that you both would want and smoke them with him (if you can).

Otherwise I would probably go for the 1 good cigar - as long as he has the proper way to store it etc.

Opinions will vary I assume.

First question would be does he smoke on a regular basis and by boxes him self? Depending on this answer would depend on what I would by him.

Example last christmas my partner at work smokes once and awhile appreciates good cigars and has a small humi at his house. I bought him about 10 good cigars that he probably hasnt had before that he will enjoy all and mabe encourage him to buy more and get a little more into this great hobby. I think if I bought him a Lost city although he would enjoy it he might not enjoy it as much as we would do to experience and pallete along with thats only 1 cigar of enjoyment. He also tends to smoke out on his boat so figure a bunch of $10 ish smokes if he drops one or one gets ruined its ok and easy to replace versus a $30 cigar.

Also if he really enjoys it its easy for him to buy more of them where he might not buy anothe lost city of Padron 80th etc.

Raschnuts I think you helped me make my decision. He is a regular smoker, he is the one who got me into it this year but before I came and started doing research into all the kind of things we could smoke, he was not smoking that often or even stuff that was good, not to sound like I know, but even he's admitted that to me. I truly don't think his palette is developed enough to enjoy some of those expensive cigars. And I know I can get some awesome smokes for him that he will surely want to go back to. Thanks guys! Feel free to chime in still I won't be going to purchase until this weekend...

Go with some midrange killer smokes. I personally am still impressed when I see guys take the time to
make a selection of newer cigars that are gifted to me/others in the past. The time and effort put in are what impress me the most. Especially when it's stuff I've/they've never had.

I'd go with the multiple good smokes myself. More chance of maybe finding something new that he'd really enjoy. There is something to be said for the expensive "smoke of a lifetime" cigars, but even great cigars can be hit or miss if they don't fit your tastes so unless you're sure about your choice I'd go with the more variety option.

This. Id rather have a few really good smokes that maybe fall into different categories. ie: different vitolas, wrappers, regions and such. Maybe find the "diamond in the rough" that hes never had.

Smoke an 80th with him. That'd be great. If somebody bought me an 80th it'd sit in my humidor. However if a bud showed up to smoke with a pair of 80ths to light up, that'd be 2 hours of pure smoking enjoyment.
