Well, I have never been a fan of the smaller ringed cigars however I have to admit this little guy was phenominal.
the one I smoked was from '02, and I was looking for something different and in going through my humidor, the perfect oily wrapper which was very smooth and rich looking, caught my eye. It had been sitting in there for a little over a year now and it was screaming, SMOKE ME. the accompanying drink was a bottle of dos equis beer.
I clipped it using my palio, as always a perfect cut. the prelight draw had hints of nutmeg and cinnamon with the slightest hint of leather and a perfect draw. I torched the foot using my blazer torch and away we went.
what struck me is the smoke bellowing from this guy. if you have had an opus or an anejo, the volume of smoke was comparable but thats where the similarities ended.
the first third of the smoke was very smooth, pure habanos twang with a mouthwatering aroma. oddly enought there was a sweetness of what reminded me of cranberries mixed with a slight cocoa bitterness. the next third was very rich, cedary leathery and in your face, there was no need to touch up the cigar as it burned perfectly, the ash was very dark grey and black. the last third ended peppery with a rich coffee like bitterness and very bold with no harshness at all. I was so pleased that I began to smoke it a bit too quickly and it began to get hot, i was sad when we finally had to part ways.
overall this went from a cigar I would normally overlook to the top of my shopping list. a very reasonably priced smoke and about 50 minutes of pure joy. after the fact i kept smelling my fingers. :nodlaugh:
if you haven't had the opportunnity to enjoy this smoke please do not pass them up.
