bombs at risk due to cold weather?

So with some of the extreme cold hitting the country Joel got me wondering if send bombs in these cold temps are putting the smokes at risk of wrapper damage or whatnot. What are your thoughts about have bombs sitting at below freezing for 5 (+/-1) days with some movement inside a package? I know people freeze for beetles but the movement component isn't there.


Of course this relevant to next weeks multibomb. #ecb

yeah, but premium manufacturers still ship during these months, right? hell, UPS and FedEx are slower than USPS on average, even.

my personal opinion (backed by a few trades here and there) is, send what you want, when you want, and trust that the recipient is going to rest them properly. that is the real key, that the receiving end actually lets them acclimate.

I'm inclined to agree with javajunkie, I have sent and received many boxes in the winter months. Almost zero problems, as long as proper rest happens afterword you will be gtg

It is freezing up here and when I got bombed the smokes were fine. Don't forget that the boxes spend little to no time outside until they drop them off at your place. So the longest time they spend outside is that period between it arriving and you arriving home.

So in saying that let them fly lol.

People freeze their cigars all the time, purposefully, to kill bettle larvae. I'm sure they would have stopped the practice if it was damaging their cigars.

I get that but the movement (throwing stacking in the truck) is what concerns me at these temps. Its not like your throwing tour freezer on someone's stoop.

My post about the cold included that cigars should be allowed to come up to temp (after, say... being in a mailbox for hours before you can get to it) before handling them, etc. It is better to ship very cold, rather than too warm (IME).

I prefer FedEx because the box usually gets "there" faster and is brought to the door.. and if you use FedEx Ground, they often times deliver sooner than estimated. I ship dozens of packages each day (for my business) with FedEx using all levels of service, and I prefer it for smokes as well. It costs more, but works for me..

They'll be fine. The cigars we've been getting in are literally ice cold. They just need some rest and they'll be fine.

It's the movement that is the issue. I just received a trade and the naked sticks were destroyed from hitting each other freeze dried. Get the air out of the bag and either use 5 finger or cellos that fit. I suppose saran wrap or tissue gift wrap would do too. Usps has been notoriously late recently from weather. Plan 4 days for those 2 day boxes. Good luck!

People who send sticks loose in regular (non-5 finger) baggies, without wrap (bubble or saran) are just shipping carelessly, wouldn't matter if it were summer or winter for those sticks getting damaged.
