Good morning brethren. I hope everyone has some fun stuff going on this weekend. I have a couple of questions. I got my wineador seasoned and it is currently holding a steady 66% on the bottom and 68% on second rack from top using 2 Boveda 69% 320 gram packs. I like to stay around 65% RH. I’m considering going with Heartfelt beads for a couple of reasons, they take up less real estate than the Boveda packs which I think we all agree is a precious commodity. The other reason is ease of maintenanace, just a spritz or two of DW when they start to dry rather than set up a container to recharge Bovedas. Here’s my question, Do you think Heartfelt is the way to go and if so do you prefer loose beads or the tubes? If I use loose beads do you think 1 lb is sufficient for a Newair CC300?

I agree that beads are less work. Personally, I use kitty litter but the Heartfelt are similar. My advice is to make sure the beads are in a shallow tray to increase the surface area. They will be more effective. My winador has been rock solid at 69% for the last two years. I spritz a bit of DW a couple of times during the dry winter and that's it. Couldn't be easier.

My wineador is on the small side, but one 320gr boveda and some loose packs seem to be working well to hold it at 64%.

I have my beads in mesh bags they sell on the site or you can pick up at an aquarium supply place for a couple bucks less. I haven’t spritzed mine in almost a year and it’s locked at 65 every time I open the door. I keep thinking I’ll need to do something eventually but haven’t yet. The bag is easy to remove and toss in another spot if needed.
In what world do beads take up less space than boveda packs?
I used to use HF beads, but I switched to bovedas for several reasons.
First, I think they are actually require less maintenance. I was checking the beads every couple weeks, and had to have a dedicated spritzer with DW. If you have a recharging container set up, you can actually use a rotation schedule with little hassle. Honestly, neither requires a significant amount of maintenance. I imagine an infomercial with a frustrated wife spilling distilled water everywhere and shaking her head.
Second, they take up less space. I can slide a pack in between boxes, on top of boxes, I can even lay them directly on top of cigars. Beads in a stocking, or a tube take up much more space. I wouldn’t put them in direct contact with my cigars either. I don’t want any of that silica dusting off and landing on them.
Third, since they are smaller, I can distribute them throughout the humidor better.
