So after not having a vacation in over 2 years, my wife, 7 year old daughter and I had been looking forward to this vacation for a long time.
My sister's in-laws have a nice beach house in Santa Cruz, literally steps away from an awesome beach called Sunny Cove. It's really beautiful up there, and it's a great chance to see my sis and her family.
The house is gorgeous, free, and it's a laid back scene up there. You can have fires on the beach at night, and there's the Santa Cruz Boardwalk for shits and giggles.
Lots of memories from countless other times there...All in all a great get away.
So we drive up Sunday, and get in at about 3:00pm.
At 9:00am the next morning, I get a call from the house sitter who says "Selena (our 11 month old lab mix) has chewed through the water hose to the toilet...Your whole house is flooded!"
Crap!
I gather my wife and daughter, pack our bags, throw everything back into the car and I'm off down the 101 freeway at 100mph on two cell phones coordinating Serve-Pro and my home owner's insurance.
We get home in record time...Panicked, exhausted, stressed, and bummed.
As it turns out the "whole house" was (very thankfully) NOT flooded...The bathroom, most of the hall, and small parts of 3 other rooms were damaged.
The adjuster has been here, the environmental survey people have done their thing, and demo is nearly completed in the affected areas.
Most importantly, no mold was detected, since Serve-Pro set up their equipment and did their job very well.
I now await a check, and begin rebuilding, repairing, repainting, re-carpeting, and trying to catch back up on sleep from stress and the fans and dehumidifiers that have been going incessantly since Monday.
What a bummer!
Could have been much, much worse, so I am counting my blessings.
Such a bummer (especially for my daughter) to have a much anticipated vacation wiped out.
(...and yes....The humi was spared![Smile :) :)](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
