Hi all!

I have recently acquired quite a taste for cigars but I am finding it terribly hard to find an online retailer for them here in Canada.

Because of Canada's ridiculous tobacco taxing, the last time I ordered I was met with a 280% duty fee when it arrived at my door - I live in Ottawa, and this was just coming from New York, a mere 3 hours away.

Does anyone know of a good, reliable retailer of cigars in Canada who will ship within Canada? I know of a few that exist in Canada but do not ship within its borders...which is mind-boggling to me.

Also - any recommendations for good day-to-day cigar brands? As much as I love a good Bolivar or Hoyo de Monterrey, I cannot afford those as every day smoking.

Thanks for the help, and I hope to become part of this community :)

Welcome! Nice to see another Canadian on the boards.

Look no further than our fine BOTL sponsors and retailers for your needs. I've personally ordered from several of them and have never had any issue. If there's something specific you're looking for or you have a question, feel free to send me a pm.

Best of luck.

Wonderful, thank you!

Now, does anyone have some suggestions for good, day-to-day cigars? Like I said in my first post, I love the premium Cuban cigars, but I really can't afford to spend that kind of money every month on cigars. (At least not right now - if I win the lottery, Bolivars every day! :))

The local smoke shop carries both Te Amo Dominicana Blend, and Quorom cigars.

But after searching both of those here, it seems they're not very good.

Any other suggestions of brands to look for?

Rocky Patel - The Edge seem to be quite decent. And reasonably priced to boot.

Anyone have any experience/opinions on that brand?

As far as I'm concerned, you can't beat the Padron x000's line as far as every day smoking. Another favourite of mine has been the CAO La Traviata, but it tends to get mixed reviews, people either love em or hate em.

Pm the guys from the Burning Leaf (podman28 is a good place to start) - they can hook up the nothern brothers.

Any recommendations of great, dark cigars (preferrably maduro) in the price range of, say, Rocky Patel The Edge?

I really enjoy this style, and was going to buy a box of those, but am now reading and finding that they aren't true maduros and apparently the tobacco is just dyed a darker colour.

Any suggestions?

Wouldn't you like to know?
Getting stuff shipped in still comes with risks. You may still be nailed with duties or have the shipment siezed. The reason most retailer don't ship is it illegal to ship tobacco across provincial borders. Canada is not set up the same as the US where order from out of state allows you to dodge taxes. Their will always be some cigars worth paying the Canadian price so don't forget to check out your local shop for some great finds. Posted via Mobile Device

A great place is cigarchief . com
They even have a storefront located on the Mohawk reserve just past Belleville, so it should even be within driving distance for you.

Try some JFR's (Just For Retailers) they're good, dark, oily and the maduro is a great stick. About $4-5 per stick and worth your time.
