We spend our summers up in the high mountains of Colorado. As I was looking through my videos from last year Im thinking about what type of jet lighter to get to work at 13000 ft . Here is a video of one of our trips from last season. this is a unknown side trip off the Picayne and Placer gulch loop. We have gone past this side road many times with out a second thought but some times the best views are from roads less traveled!! If your on this loop and have the extra hr to spend its worth the drive to the top

I just use a plain old bic lighter when I visit our land in CO (our cabin is at 9200ft).... even at 10,000 feet I have yet to find a torch that is reliable..

xikar stratosphere is supposed to work at altitude. haven't had a chance to test it out yet
They can be had for cheap on cbid too.

Never smoked at that altitude. I imagine a bic would work fine, like Dave said. Are matches a no-go at that height?

Matches would work but there is normally wind on top. Ill hit cbid for the xikar lighter. I'm sure I'm not the only one that has a growing collection of lighters

I use 4" kitchen matches for just about everything up there except lighting cigars... We cook on a propane camp stove... Use a wood burning stove for heat... And whenever there isn't a burn ban in effect pretty much have a camp fire running all night and much of the day...

All gets lit from plain old wooden kitchen matches...

Wind can sometimes make things complicated... But it's easy enough to overcome (use lots of tinder... and matches get struck from shelter)...
