So I picked up a CAO Brazillia in a metal tube today and when I opened it, there was white stuff on the cigar... It seemed almost like a powder or ash... I'm afraid it might have been a mold or something. Anyone have any idea what it may have been? Also, when putting sticks in a humidor, is it best to take them out of all packaging or leave them in? Does it make a difference if its cello vs. metal?

How old was the cigar? I wanna say I don't think that particular cigar has been out long enough to have enough age for it to be plume (I could be, and probably am, wrong though). I also seem to read more about people having issues with mold in their tubos (the metal canisters) than other cigars. Anyway, hope it's not mold cause the Brazilias are good cigars. My favorite is the Piranha...mmm delicious .

As far as the cello goes you'll find a lot of sources here on BOTL, but I think you'll find it boils down to personal preference. I take most my cigars out of the cello because I like the way my humi smells with all the tobacco mingling. My cigars get smoked, they don't age  so I'm not worried about the mingling effecting them long term.

if it is furry then it is mold, if it is sparkly then it is plume. If it is mold take it back to the shop you bought it from and ask for a exchange, then check all sticks that are in tubes.

The stuff that sparkles is crystallized oils - plume. Anything fuzzy is mold. White or blue.
