Okay... I am getting someone a gift and I am down to the CAO Champions Collection:

and the Preferidos Treasure Sampler:

Any experience with either? Any preferences? Any advice?

Both seem pretty nifty -- the cigars all seem to be well-liked and the packages come in a neat presentation.

Help a brudder out!

I personally think that LaAurora are wonderful cigars, and a lot more
classier/premium that anything CAO puts out w/ the exception of that
leather backpack w/ cigars that they put out. (Saw one of those in a
B&M 2 nights ago... Very Nice!)

So my vote is for the Preferido's! The ecuador is a great blend!

I have one of the CAO zippered travel humidors--its nice. Cedar lined, seems to hold a good rH. If the person doesn't have a nice travel humi, that's a big plus. Also, 10 cigars to try as opposed to 5.

So it really depends on who it's for--a seasoned smoker or someone newer to the hobby? The LAs are DR puros (except the wrapper), whereas CAO has some of everything. Both have variety of body and strength in the samplers, which is nice. The LA Tubos are literally the nicest cigar tubes I've ever seen, and the double perfecto shape is cool. But the LA sampler is probably at least $15 more expensive too.

If it were me, I'd get the LA sampler if my friend was really into top-quality or special cigars and the CAO sampler if they were not familiar with CAO or were newer to the hobby and 10 cigars and a travel humi would be nice.

Urph! Now I am back on da fence!

My buddy's an old (OLD, like... 89 old) pro, but favors Thompson's Don Thomas-type stuff.

I would say La Aurora but there are some good smokes in the CAO pack, tough call. But as you said if he really dosent smoke a lot i would go with the CAO
