Alright, so I believe I have an oppurtunity for a great job.. but it will move me to one of three places.

either

Salina, Kansas
Pittsburgh
or
Northern Jersey

I dont know where I am leaning right now, its a great oppurtunity so I believe I will take one of the jobs, I just dont know where yet...

I dont know much about any of the places so it is hard to decide...

I need some insight from brothers that live in these places....

Thanks

If you know your expected salary, try to find a cost of living calculator that will play off each city. Like if you make 50K in kansas then you'll need 75k to live the same in jersey as you would in kansas. You get my drift.

If it were me and I was getting paid the same at all 3 places, then I'd pick Kansas and line my pockets.

I've driven through Salinas many times and wasn't impressed. It is a big town in the middle of nowhere. If your job is a short-term post (2 years or less) maybe that would be fine, but if not I'd pick the northeast.

and yes it is a short term post... honestly as of now Kansas offers the best oppurtunity I believe

Looks like you made up your mind.

Although, living in Kansas for two years out of college is pretty boring. They can be the best times of your life. Not many expenses or things to tie you down and you can really enjoy yourself. Might be tough to do that out there.

Obviously living near NYC lets you do all the fun things and also experience a lot.

Just my two cents

Northern NJ is a nice area. Its more suburban than city.

I'm not sure what you do for a living but, as far as a career move working in NYC alone is an experience that will help you with your next job. Depending upon the field you work in, employeers in NYC like to see you have experience in NYC. So while at the time, you may make more money in one location, in the long term working in NYC I feel would be your best bet (again depending upon your field).

Pittsburgh gets a bad rap, it's actually a nice city. I used to go out there all the time, and there is alot to do, and it's not as expensive as NYC. Can't give an opinion on Kansas.

Clay,

Can you give us some insight as to what the job is? What industry so to speak?

Personally, I'm with Cliff. I'd work the place where you got the most for your money, you'll most likely need it. How big's the swing in Cost of Living between KS and the other two locations? If it's not substantial then that kind of changes things ya know?

Personaly, I'll never live in Jersey again, but that's a politics issue more than anything else. That being said, there ARE lots of places in Jersey that are beautiful. Lots of factors that are personal to you that will affect your decision that we can't really comment on.

One last thought. Is the company leaning one way or another? My guess is they would prefer you be in one place over another so that might be a factor as well.

Good luck!

I will be working for Cessna or Bell Helicopters.... company called Textron, they own those as well as a few other companies like EZ-Go Golf Carts... be doing financial analysis, the reason that Kansas has more potential is because there are huge offices for Cessna and Bell there so in a year or 2 I will end up in one of thier corporate offices...

but there are other great oppurtunities in NJ and PItt as well

I would go where you can get the most exposure on the job. Money is nice but reputation and experience will get you a lot more opportunity and moe money in the long run. Textron is a very good company with $10 billion in revenues. The corporate HQ is in Providence, Rhode Island. You want to be as close to HQ as possible versus buried in some wheat field (no offense Todd).

The second largest office is here in Atlanta.... the biggest issue is where the main offices are for the specific companies...

It should only be a year or two tops

New Jersey = almost 200 Superfund sites ... 'nuff said. Prepare to glow in the dark.

Pittsburgh = Good, clean, blue collar town. Prepare to become a Steeler fan.

Kansas = Dorothy + Toto ( I think the munchkins would probably live there too ). Prepare to often discuss the farm report.
