So I know a lot of you Chicago-land brothers frequent the Casa de Montecristo.
Some background: I ordered a Liga sampler from Topqualitycigars.com, got me some Dirty Rats, UF-13s etc. Included in the sampler were a couple LP9s. I tried my damnedest to smoke one tonight, but failed miserably. Wouldn't stay lit, tunneled like crazy, and had a very un-Liga-like lack of smoke output. In other words, wicked wet.

My question is, does Casa de Montecriso keep their humidity above average, or was this merely a product of the Nica rainy season?
Never had to pitch a Liga Privada before, and would rather not have to again. Regardless, the rest of the sampler is going to be spending a month or so adjusting to 65% humidity before any others get lit.

My guess is you just got a bad one, I have only had that happen once with a T52. You can try calling the shop, you never know, they might replace it. My guess is that you should just move on and scratch it up to bad luck.

I've smoked plenty at the shop and have ordered online now that I live in California. Never had a problem.

Only suggestion would be a longer rest once receiving your shipment.

Sry to hear about the poor experience.

I'm a member of CdM. I have a locker located in their box storage area. I have a personal Hygrometer in my locker and am actually surprised at how well they keep humidity levels at an appropriate level. I agree with Hoshy that you probably got a bad one. One of the few NC very tight draw cigars that I have had this year was a Liga and was surprised like you that it happened, questioning storage and everything else.

It's crucial you let Liga rest a couple of weeks, and imho always beneficial to drybox 2-3 days, especially on the 52's, I can't tell you how many I've had burst on me when I didn't follow procedure. Draw, burn and flavor all wildly improve if you just plan a little ahead. I clip the head and test draw before it goes into the dry box, then test it each day, when it loosens up, it's ready.

It's a handmade product, isht happens.
My main goal was to rule out a CdM problem before I lit up one of the UF-13s, as I'm pretty damn excited about that stick, and would be pretty upset to waste one by trying to smoke it wet.
Thanks for the info, gents.

I recall JD talking about the MUWAT when they first shipped, saying they were still super wet because of crazy rain in Nicaragua when they shipped out, so if it was a fresh shipment they may not even have acclimated to CdM's humidor when they were shipped to you.

Just throwing out another possibility.

No matter who's shop I either let the cigars rest for at least a month or dry box for 36 hours if I smoke then ROTT.

Fwiw, we check the absolute moisture content of LPs prior to packing so and it is early so the rainy season is not the issue...

Sound like you got a bad cigar, even with LP it occasionally happens, handmade means not every cigar is perfect. Please email with the details at saka@drewestate.com and I will get you out a replacement.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

That's just about kick ass right there. Not only do y'all make killer smokes, but y'all are just all around good folk.
