Could be a big deal, but it could also be routine.
After all, our Presidents temporarily transfer power to the VP all the time for medical reasons

Hmmmm...wonder how much Raul wants his turn on the world's stage?

I agree with Kingston, this could be absolutely nothing. On the other hand...

Lookat the odds and risks folks! What are the odds that An 80 year old man does not make it through major surgery? If Castro is sure that he will pull through, would he appoint an interim President and a successor?
(This is what the Cuban Americans in Miami are celebrating.)

Should Casto not make it, I think this is where the snowballing begins.

ANY U.S President does this same thing everytime surgury is needed.. Don't Count the Old Bastard out yet.. Hell, Raul may be worse? Cubans will get tired of it soon enough and we'll have to help out like we alwas do.... I'm going to smoke a Punch tonight and think about it though..

The dancing in the streets by the CA communities that is being reported surprised me a little, as though he was already dead.

When Fidel does pass, I wonder if Cuban-Americans will insist that our government interject and get involved, rather than just allow the Cubans on the island to sort things out for themselves? I would hope that Washington doesn't think that they can just breeze into Havana with a grand plan to "fix" everything. Interesting to say the least!
