Cbid Question

So I recently signed up for Cbid and have been scanning merchandise and placing bids here and there on brands I like. I was just wondering how the whole thing works as far as suppliers. Am I ordering from individuals, B&Ms, online retailers, etc...? I'd like to know because I'm a little concerned about price-gouging from individuals and owners of B&Ms. I know that when a friend sells something on ebay, he usually asks my assistance in 'bidding-up' the item for sale. Does the same 'bidding-up' practice happen at Cbid. Could an owner of a B&M enlist his friends to bid-up a box of cigars he wants top-dollar for? The same question for an individual. Could a person selling a box he/she doesn't want on Cbid also enlist cohorts to drive the bidding up? Let's say for instance I want that nice box of x-and-y cigars. I place a bid. Seller's friends A, B, C, and D start driving the price up on me. I eventually get stuck buying box at higher price than original bid, only because a bunch of punks trapped me into a bidding-up scam. Could this happen, does this happen, and what's the best advice for making purchases on Cbid? I only ask this because I know the practice is widely used on Ebay.

it's owned and run by cigars international, all shipments come from them. cigarauctioneer.com however, is owned and run by famous-smoke (a BOTL sponsor *wink wink*).
whichever one you choose to use, my only advice would be this: set a mental limit for yourself, and do not bid higher than that. the same auctions show up week after week usually (with the exception being limited or harder to find stuff). people overpay all the time because they get caught up in the excitement of the auction. also, always make sure you check other online retailers before bidding, sometimes, what may seem like a good deal, is the standard price or even cheaper, elsewhere.

Also, always check the prices before you click bid. I've seen people bid more than what CI has it listed for on their site. If it's not at least 25% off retail, don't bid. I generally only buy if it's something good and near 50% off.

Cbid is a dangerous place! I had to stop going for a while . My wallet was getting too empty and my humidors overflowing.

I would echo all of the warnings about spending more than what it would cost you to buy alone. We've all done it at some point, and it happens every day on both sites. I will say that there is a warning that shows up on cigarauctioneer when you place a bid above the MSRP that gives you the link to the item to buy direct on famous. Keep in mind, almost nothing on either of the main sites is actually at MSRP, and Famous gives BOTL a 17% discount on top of the sale price.

So moral there is be careful. Dont get caught in bidding wars!

It's good to check what cigars are actually going for. Usually, the more popular brands tend to get bid up to and higher than the typical asking price. In that case, you're better off to just buy them outright with one of the various discount codes.

Sometimes, you do find a hell of a deal. Like was stated above; know what you're willing to spend and what you can get the same sticks for by simply mail ordering. Don't get caught up in the bidding excitement.

Cbid can be very addicting! I'm up to 419 cigars on hand and 247 more coming Saturday. I've been able to get some very good deals and my average price is $1.47 each including shipping and tax and that includes good sticks like lots of Man O War, Ave Maria, etc but also lots of great every day cigars in bundles and cheap 5ers.
