I'm a total noob when it comes to ccs. My question is, are the Partaga series D no 4 a quality cc? Looking to get the old man a nice box. They seem to have good reviews and I see are smoked frequently.

The owner of my local shop and I talked about these not too long ago. The man has access to some of the best NC's on the market, but his go to is the PSDN4. That speaks volumes about them.

At least to me it does.

Their quality is sometimes a bit up and down, but that's a factor of just how many are produced. A good box with a few years is pretty great. Even fresh they can be pretty good.

They're fairly well-loved by many.

Personally, I find the H Upmann Connie 1 a better smoke, but the PSD4 has always been a great cigar.

Of what I have in my stable, here's how I order my regular-production robustos:
1. H Upmann Connie 1
2. HdM Ep 2
3. Juan Lopez 2
4. PSD4

...but ordering 'em kinda gives a false impression because it's a really, really close race. Photo-finish kinda thing, any one of those on any given day will be quite satisfactory.

Excellent choice. Can't go wrong with them.

Great smoke, age is a friend to them.

IMVHO, the Lusitania is fantastic, if you ever want a nice long smoke with a similar profile. More mellow, and the profile switches up more.
