Two objects, both alike in complexity, in fair Chicago, where we lay our scene, from ancient tradition to new experiences, where aromatic smoke makes civil taste buds unclean.

Translated… I couldn’t decide what to smoke, and eventually settled on a Che Robusto. It had a nice silky smooth, light shaded brown wrapper with one vein streaking down the top of the cigar like the stripe on an antique race car. The band was beautifully eloquent, yet simple and stood out like a medal on a serviceman’s uniform. The pre-light aroma was quite pungent with the smell of fresh tobacco as if you were walking past a factory on the street. The cigar drew perfect from the start, and the smoke was so thick I was glad I had a favorable breeze, being that I was smoking indoors. The burn was wavey throughout the smoke, and had to be touched up a few times, which no doubt contributed to the demise of stability of the cigars ash. The ash was light grey all the way through and cracked erratically.

No doubt this was somewhat of a biased smoke for me, but I found the flavors to be tremendously enjoyable, especially though the first two-thirds of the cigar. It hit me right away with a dry leathery core, with noticeable tannins in play. About an inch into the cigar the complexity began to come out, and there was a sweetness that reminded me of a fine white chocolate that seemed to coat the leathery core. I was fortunate enough to get to enjoy this flavor profile until the final third of the cigar, where the sweetness disappeared, and I began to taste a more watered down version of the once bold leathery flavor. The final inch of the cigar exhibited some harshness and got quite hot on my tongue, and alas had to be put out.

While starting off full bodied, this cigar ended medium in body, but left me with a new profile experience that was like falling for a foreign woman that you know you will never see again. I guess it’s a good thing I still have the rest of the week ahead of me with this foreigner, as I still have six of these beauties to be smoked. Thank you to the brother who made this happen for me.
