Just got back from the annual 3 day alligator hunting trip in Florida. Tons of sun, lots of time on the water, and lots of good sticks died: Camacho 2008 Liberty, Hemingway Classic, Padron 40th, a few DPG JJ's, Padron 3000 maduro, CG:4, Oliva V's, and a few others I can't remember right now. Here is the 8 footer we got on the second night.

We have someone riding up in front of the airboat with a 10 foot gig that has a release tip and a wire leader which is attached to a 20 foot rope and a buoy. You run up close to the gator and hit him with the barb and kick the buoy over. Chase them around a bit to tire them out and then grab the buoy and bring them up to the boat. We use a 6 foot bang stick that takes .44 shells. A pop of two to the melon usually ends it quickly. A little duck tape on the jaws and in the boat they go!

Sounds like a good trip.

Gator meat is so good. When I was at school down in Statesboro you could find it. But up around Atlanta you don't see it anywhere.

Nice catch. i never gator hunted but I worked on a tuna boat and we used to charter sharks trips for people and an 7 ft mako is something to be seen. I imagine its like getting a gator.
