Cigar King Scottsdale
For years, Cigar King has worked with a multitude of manufacturers to create some exciting and well received exclusive brands. From Habana Leon to Purofino Milenio and everything in between, we have worked with some of the best manufacturers on the market today. One of those cigar companies is El Titan de Bronze, a small boutique manufacturer based in the Little Havana area of Miami, Florida. Started by a man by the name of Willie Herrera (now with Drew Estate) and now run by his family, El Titan de Bronze holds a vast Cuban heritage continued today in Little Havana. That heritage is evident in our Cigar King Gold Series which Willie blended for us 5 years ago. Aged and bundled in packs of 20, this is a wonderful ride of flavor and aroma many are sure to love.
Cigar King Gold Series
Size: Lancero 7 x 38
Wrapper: Ecuadoran Sun Grown Habano
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan
Strength: Medium-Plus
Flavor: Full
Cost: $5.95/stick or $99/bundle of 20
Number of cigars smoked: countless (but 2 for the review)
Appearance: The Ecuadoran wrapper on the Cigar King Gold Series is a nice medium brown color with some very slight veins and a nice rustic look to it. Slightly heavy in the hand but not overly so with no hard spots down the length of the cigar. A nice spongy feel to it without an imperfection, it is a very nice wrapper. The band is gold and black with some red trimming and carries with it a simple elegance.
Pre-light Aroma: The Cigar King Gold Series has a very distinct sweetness to it on the foot, akin to black licorice. The wrapper smells of earth and barnyard, which to me is always a good thing. Ive never smoked a cigar I didnt enjoy when it smelled of barnyard. The dry-draw on this Cigar King Gold Series brings a surprising spice, something you didnt smell on the foot or wrapper. It is a very easy draw, much easier than expected for a lancero.
Cigar King Gold Series
Once the Cigar King Gold Series was lit, a full mouth of smoke greeted me with a nice mineral like taste with spice very evident, both through the nose and on the tongue. It was a nice combination of sweet baking spice, like nutmeg, with a white pepper like note to it. A light earthy sweetness was also evident but definitely a more minor note with the spice being the dominant flavor. The ash holds solid for the first inch before I tap it off and the burn line is fairly even without a touch-up being needed. So far this is a more medium bodied offering without a lot of strength pushing through. The draw is the same as it was pre-light, easy with a nice amount of smoke coming through.
Getting into the next third of this Cigar King Gold Series, we leave the spice behind and the earth becomes more prevalent. A slight toffee like flavor is also peeking through the earth and mineral like flavors, a nice change from the sweet spice in the first third. The burn line has stayed consistent and the cigar has yet to require a relight. The lancero size can be a bit tricky to smoke because of the ring gauge but both samples needed no relights.
Cigar King Gold Series
The final 3rd brings the spice back, but not on the tongue, through the nose. The mouth flavors stayed consistent with the previous 3rd on the Cigar King Gold Series lancero. I was able to smoke both samples down to the nub without them getting overly hot. Each sample provided a nice volume of smoke on each puff but did not smoke heavy from the foot while sitting in the ashtray.
