CLAYTON, MO.(KMOX)–The Ritz Carlton-St. Louis annual Cigar Club Party winds up in a fine for the Ritz Carlton hotel.

Clayton Police Chief Tom Byrne says the Ritz cigar party was too large for the Cigar Club Lounge so it was moved to the hotel’s ballroom. The problem is the lounge is exempt from the City’s Smoking Ban Ordinance but the ballroom is not.

The Ritz has agreed to pay a $300 dollar fine and $26.50 in court costs for violating the smoking ban.

Clayton’s Board of Alderman will now review and consider amending the Ordinance to reduce future misunderstandings regarding the city’s smoking ban.
Not so terrible considering all of the new members they must have gotten.

If $300 is it I am sure the members would pass around the collection plate for the cost. I know I would throw in $10 for the cause. At least it sounds like the city coucil may be willing to make some changes to benefit them.
