Checking out the cigarinspector, I ran across an interesting article today: http://www.cigarinspector.com/other/buying-cigars-in-amsterdam. I say "interesting" because a significant other will be travelling to Amsterdam shortly.

Does anyone know what are the cigar prices in the Netherlands (compared to France or Germany)? Of course it will be nice to receive a gift in the form of rolled up fermented tobacco leaves, but if it turns out the prices are much higher than they are back home, I'll pass on the occasion.

I visited both countries earlier this year and found prices to be pretty comparable. I am not sure how prices are in the local shops though since I made my purchases in the Schipol airport and Koln/Bonn airports. If I recall correctly they were a little bit cheaper at the duty free shop in Schipol but it was not a significant difference. A 3 pack of Mont #2's was around 35 Euros if i remember correctly.

well, well.

Any specific suggestions would be much appreciated. I was thinking along the lines of cigars I can't get at home (half corona, the cheaper partagas vitolas,...)

Thanks for the info, everyone. One more question, though - do they let you buy singles?

In the duty free airport stores, no. Three packs, five packs, boxes are all I've ever seen. At the cigar stores in town, like PGC Hajenius, yes.
Actually singles are available at the Schipol airport. I took the photo below when I was there in May. It's a little hard to see because of the reflection off the glass of the walk-in but the singles are in the trays that are recessed into the countertop in the center island. There are also quite a few on the 3rd shelf from the top.

If you have the time though I would suggest getting to the Hajenius store. I have never been there but have heard from several sources that it is really nice. As a matter of fact I had a guy tell me last night that it was "the best tobacconist shop in the world". He said that it was not just a cigar store it was "an experience".

If (like me) you are just connecting through the airport and not able to get there though you can still find a good selection (including singles) at the airport.

That's new then....I've been through AMS many times and cannot recall seeing that singles tray set-up. Good info, thanks!
