I'm still new to this hobbie but I just watched a video on cigars and they talked about purging? First time I've heard of this sounds kind of odd to me. What's theword on here about purging your cigar?

talking about blowing out the "stale" smoke? meh, I do it every now and then. don't find I have an issue with it too often. may do it if a cigar gets too hot and I want to let it sit for a second... will purge and then let it rest. probably the exact opposite of what you're recommended to do but I've had decent results from it.

I'm no expert but I've tried it on occasion. If I find myself smoking to fast and start getting that bitter taste I'll try to purge the cigar and slow my pace down. I've also done if I let the cigar go out and had to relight it, I'll do it before lighting (after ashing the cigar, wasn't funny to me but it was to the guys watching) and after toasting it. It might work if the cigar is not telling you it's time to be put down.

Purging is good if you're smoking too fast, and also if you know you have to set it down for a bit. I purge my cigar if it has to sit for a bit, before relighting.

Some people will also "purge" when they start to get a nicotime overload from the cigar too.

Thanks guys I will have to give it a go next time I have any of the above mentioned happen while smoking.
Try it even if you don't have any of the listed symptoms. About half way in purge and see if the flavors change. You'd be surprised!:stretchgr
I do it anywhere from 2 to 5 times a stick. Freshens up the taste for me!

Don't over do it, though... You're adding a lot of extra moisture to the stick if you blowing down into it all the time.

Personally, I'll only purge right before I'm going to set my stick down for a while (be it to get a drink, hit the head, let it cool, etc.). Just don't want any more smoke than necessary to be "settling" inside the cigar while it's sitting.

I use it on occasion. As others said on a relight/touchup is the most frequent. Its almost only done when I'm smoking while driving and let the cigar start to go out or have to fix one side up a bit. Really, I just like the looks on other drivers faces when I have a 4 inch flame shooting out of my cigar.

Time constraints often find me half way thru a smoke and no more time to smoke. I know I'll be able to smoke later, but again, maybe not a whole stick. So I'll purge it well before I set it down. And Come back a few hours later toast the foot, get it lit and purge it again.

I purge before each draw. The goal is to ensure the entire foot of the cigar is lit vs. purging stale smoke.

As a cigar rests (the time between draws where you tell lies about your high school youth ) it cools from the outside in. When you draw in after a few minutes of rest, you are most likely to draw only the filler tobaccos. At the end of your draw you might get some binder and wrapper.

Since a cigar is a blend of tobaccos, you want to smoke them all at the same time. Blow through the cigar until you see a uniform red ring on the outside of the foot, then draw in.

To experience different flavors, try taking smaller then larger draws. There are dramatic differences in flavor depending on size, blend and length of draw.

It sounds like you are letting your cigar rest too long while while telling lies.

Same here...I draw pretty often as well, but not before each draw.

I also have been drawing much, much slower recently, which really allows for a better enjoyment of the cigar's profile. I will take 5 full seconds on some draws which not only allows your entire palate to be 'covered' by the smoke, but it also avoids hot boxing the cigar.

I purge about 3 times over the course of the stick... helps me get to nub more sticks vs of getting nic/tar bombed in the last 3rd.
