Cigar storage Cap on Or off?

Hello all,

I have been curious about where ppl stand regarding storing there cigars. In asking that I mean does anyone else per-cut their cigars before storing them. I'm not talking about long term storage just those that will be smoked soon.

When I get new cigars I cut the caps right away if I were to smoke them. The reason behind this is that I find the cigar breaths threw much easier and the aging seems to be more even across the entire cigar.

What do you guys do and what are your thoughts on this method?

I personally do not cut the caps off when storing, however I DO remove the cigars from the cellophane.

Don't cut the cap, but I do take off the cellophane as well.

I do on certain cigars. Like my UZI, I think it helps them smooth out with age.

That is what I look at it as. I find it speeds it up.

I get drunk cut a cigar or three that I think I might go and smoke. then often fall asleep lol so sorta. not purposely really never thought to do it to cigars I buy tho.

I just find it interesting see how different ppl look at storing cigars. I do it cause I find the cigar breaths through better and it speeds up the mellowing of cigars.

I do not cut the cap when I buy a smoke, only right before smoking. I guess I am afraid if I do it stands more of a chance of unraveling over time. (this may not be true, just what I fear) And I also don't know how long a smoke may sit in my humi before I get to it.

I don't but I considered starting because I theorized that it would aid in speeding up the resting period...but I never started. The only cigars that occasionally get clipped and placed back in the humidor that fail the cold draw test, sometimes they just don't taste ready so back to the humidor they go.

Cap on; it helps keep the cigar from potentially unraveling. Plus if you ever have friends over and want to share a cigar there is something weird about pulling out a stick that's already cut out of the humidor; it's like grabbing your buddy a beer out of the fridge that already has the cap off. He will still take it.... But he will never look at you the same again.....

That is a funny way of looking at it. The end definitely cracked me up.

I do it cause it helps with the aging and my buddys know I work hard at keeping my cigars at an optimum condition for smoking so they have trust in me. For those friends who enjoy a cigar just because I'm having one don't know how to cut them anyway so I generally have to cut it for them also.

Still that was an awesome way to look at it that never hit me.
