OK, so a recent post got me thinking on this and I figured I'd start a thread on it. Feel free to add to it!

When starting out in this hobby you get a ton of terms and acronyms thrown at you, so hopefully this will help.

I.S.O.M. To start with one of the more contraversial ones. Island South of
Miami. Used to refer to Cuba or Cuban cigars. Some do believe
this term to be disrespectful to Cuba and it's people, so be advised.
C.C. Cuban Cigars, or Credit Card depending on the usage.:bouncetau
N.C. But of course, Non-Cuban Cigars.
Herf A gathering of cigar smokers. Here's some history:
http://cigar-store.port5.com/what-is-herf.shtml
Coolidor A make-shift Humidor made out of a cooler. Also refered to as
Igloo-idors after the Igloo brand coolers.
Tupperdor Same but with Tupperware.
BOTL Duh!

There's more...I just can't think of htem at the moment. So feel free to add on!

Now I feel bad, sorry!! But at least now we can send newbies over here and they can go ahhhhhhhhhhh that's why he said FOAD. I must admit i'm slightly shocked by some of the abbreviations, British reserve and all that, plus i now know what a FOG is and someone may of called me one on another board!!!!!!!!

Is there some kind of vBulletin addon for dictionary/encyclopedia? That would be nice to have a site dictionary that you can look up terms on

Holy long list Batman!

I think of CC as Cuban Cigar and Cc as credit card.

If one considers ISOM disrespective then NC must likewise be considered disrespective doubly so. Not only are you neglecting the actual country of origin you are clumping all cigars that are not from Cuba into one, undistinguishable, group.

Too true Todd. Just wanted to stick that in there so people would be aware of the issue. The recent discussion dealing with that issue isn't an isolated conversation. There are certainly others out there that feel the same way.

At any rate, any other terms, acronyms, etc. you guys can think of?

Nub

as in nubbing a cigar...to me this is smoking the cigar down to the point that you can no longer physically smoke it or smoking it to the point where you can't smoke it any further without ruining the entire experience.

I also refer to that list a lot when decifering posts. Would we catch some flack if we posted it as a sticky somewhere? It would be kind of nice

Great idea! Implemented; see the Glossary link in the sub-navigation menu.

Note: Image upload is turned off

Let's take bets on the days (err, hours) when you see this implemented elsewhere

Never realized just how many abbreviations there are alone for brands (with or without vitolas) until I added a few of the top of my head...
