In this brotherhood, we talk about all things tobacco. Well, not all things, we don't talk about cigarettes. But that isn't really tobacco... We don't talk about infused cigars. Or we do, but in a negative perspective. Because, let's say it, its a good way to waste perfectly good tobacco...

We talk about cigars, we have a pipe section.

And we rarely mention cigarillos.
Why is so?

Ok, its not the same as a bigger cigar, but they do have their usefulness. May it be when time is short, like going errands or driving around.

They are nice when getting a quicker smoke with some cigarette-friendly friend to not have them complain about the duration of said cigar.

I know I like to use them when going to the park - less involvement than a longer-to-smoke cigar, less attention grabber too.

But, we don't talk about them much in the brotherhood.
Is it because brothers don't like them?

Or is it because there's just not much selection to choose from?

Here up north, we see lots of CC in mini and club sizes. But aside from Davidoff and Macanudo, there's not much in the non-CC cigarillo category. There are lots of infused :dunno: but let's not talk about them. Or let's just say they suck. They aren't even stored in humidors in convenience stores ROFL.

Do you guys like cigarillos? What do you like? What is good, what is not good, what is available...

Most cigar-friendly canadian convenience stores have only a small variety of cigars, mainly CCs - some overpriced, some cheapo dog rockets. But most of them have either cuban Montecristo, cuban Romeo y Julieta or cuban Partagas cigarillo in various sizes and prices, making them rather easy to get for an interesting smoke. Our B&M cigar store also generally carry Davidoff in the smaller size, but often not to be sold by the unit...

Back in my pre-BOTL era, I pretty much just smoked the big basic brands (Montecristo, RyJ, CAO, Macanudo, etc). I occasionally would pick up a pack for Cohiba or CAO Cameroon cigarillos for when I wanted a quick smoke. I'd smoke these when walking my dog or grilling with friends when I didn't want a larger smoke. I don't have anything against them, but I don't see myself going back to them anytime soon. With my greatly increased awareness of all the great brands out there since joining you guys, I'd much rather smoke a something like a Bait Fish, Papas Fritas, one of the Room 101 Papi Chulos, Guerilla Warefare, etc. The 4x44 size does not work as well when walking my dog, but for nearly all other occasions they are great.

About 8 years ago or so I picked up 2 50ct wheels of no-name Dominican Puro cigarillos from Cigarsinternational.com for something like $30. I have gotten through most of the first wheel and they have aged really well. I enjoy them when time is short but somehow always forget I have them, probably because I usually want something more full flavor than mild.

I mentally played out my personal pros and cons when I was outside with a co-worker who was smoking from a gifted Nat Sherman pack of cigarettes- they smell almost like a cigar. I thought about the benefits of a work break mini cigar, and how great that would be, but decided in reality it would a. Make me want one every five seconds, or b make me less interested in cigars overall- part of it is the relaxation of not doing anything else if I don't want to for a few hours.

Moped syndrome?
THAT'S funny! o)

they are common, and hardly really register for us. and it's hard to find one that can give the "WOW" moment at all, much less the frequency of a full hand-made. still they have their usefulness, and their adherents (myself amongst them), and their place in the community. but, hey, are you gonna talk about all the McD's runs and chipotle stops, or that one time you rolled through a michelin-starred establishment and can still to this day remember the tastes?

I've tried several over the years.. But tend to gravitate toward petit corona and other small vitolas instead when I'm looking for a short smoke... Tat pcr, asylum petit, Nat Sherman quick smoke, etc are nice 30-45 min smokes that offer more flavor than any cigarillo I have found... Are affordable... And smoke like a cigar rather than a cigarette...

Just my .02

That's not to say I've completely written off cigarillos.. I still pick up a tin of fuente every now and then to fill in those times I want a 15 min smoke... But it's not very often..

Fuente tins are okay by me. Guantanamera Puritos are great. Tat petit cabaiguan aren't bad either. Been interested in trying some more cc versions, might be my next purchase!

For me, I like to smoke them when I am going to a person home that don't like smoking and I still want to smoke but don't want to take the normal time to smoke a good Cigar and i would hate to have to light one up and then put it out before it is done. If I go to my In-Laws that don't smoke I will take some Cohiba Cigarillos to enjoy a short smoke when I feel the need. If have to put it down and it gets lost it is better then loosing a Cohiba Extra Vigoroso...

I've bought one tin of the Cohiba cigarillos, seven years ago while in college and just getting into cigars the first time. I think I only smoked four or so of them before someone broke into my car and stole them.

See?
If someone is willing to break in your car for them, then they must be good. Lol. ;)

Maybe a stupid question, but what is the official definition of a cigarillo? There are all kinds of small cigars out there called purito, pronto, machito, club etc. Are they all cigarillos unless they're big enough to be coronas?

Anyway, I like 'em well enough, and the Monte and Cohiba clubs were my main daily smoke when living in Europe. The ones i normally think of as cigarillos - smaller than clubs, and even thinner than cigarettes (probably what, 26 rg?) - I'm not too crazy about. Just had an RyJ Romeo today and enjoyed it.

The funny thing is, I don't even remember liking them that much.
