Plenty of hard alcohol out there without the burn, you just usually pay for it!

Can't speak for rums, but there's some high end tequilas and tons of whisk(e)ys out there that have little to no burn.

For dark rums, try Appletons. From Jamaica. They have run of the mill stuff and they have some specialty aged stuff in the 12 and 18 yr range, but as mentioned, you pay for age.

I use Appleton V/X as a mixer with diet coke...aaah, what a beautiful thing. That rum is so sweet you can't even taste it. Dangerous i tell ya...they'll sneak up on you, and quick!

Yep Zacapa 23 for sure, I also like Appleton, I think there is a 21 and a VX, both are good.

And try One Barrell if you can find it.

Zacapa most definitely. It's very thick + sweet though.

Others that I like include:
Appleton 21 (nice - but expensive)
Barbancourt 15 (on the dry side - not as sweet)
El Dorado 12/15 (smokey)
Flor de Cana 18
Havana Club 7 (hard to get in the US)

Zaya rocks my face off.
Havana Club 7 - if you can get it.
Spiced rum that is delicious in a rum and coke (with lime) is Sailor Jerry.

Not a huge drinker, but we got this new rum in at the lounge that we just can't keep in stock, it's called Kilo Kai, pretty smooth, with a nice spice aftertaste to it.

Ron Zacapa 23 is wonderful, on the sweet side if that is your thing.
HC7 is great for cuban rum, but I prefer Ron Caney
El Dorado is great!
Appleton Estate is great also.

Brugal Extra Viejo. The stuff is awesome!! So smooth on ice...It's only available in the Dominican Republic though. Brugal is starting to import into the US, but last time I checked, they aren't importing the Extra Viejo. I can drink this stuff all day....
