I know coffee beans have some positive effect to "cleanse" the pallet where fragrances are concerned, but because your sense of taste and smell are both closely linked I was wondering if anyone is aware of a particular food or drink that does this for your sense of taste as well? Something for those occasions where you plan on smoking several cigars in a day or in between meals.

Pickled Ginger works when eating sushi.....I wonder what effect it would have when smoking cigars :)

Cigar tobacco is a basic on the PH scale. When I am smoking cigars I do two things one is smoke mild to full and second I drink a acidic drink between sticks like OJ.

I always smoke Mild to Full but I didn't know about the OJ trick, thanks JJ. Also thats a good point about the pickled ginger, I enjoy it so I might give that a try as well.

I think coffee does cleanse the palate for cigars too, and that might be 1 reason why even guys who prefer full-bodied cigars will smoke a mild stick with coffee.

I drink acidic stuff too--though usually lemonade/lime-ade, but I find that the citrus flavor seems to help as well. I've always wondered if sorbet would work ...

Also, parsley works well (learned that from someone on here). Fresh parsley is cheap at the grocery store, and chewing a little when your palate seems "muddy" can really help!

Lime/lemon water pretty much does this and I drink Drambuie with my cigars to keep the tobacco taste fresh. This also helps those cigars that don't live up to the "moment" of tasting good,,,this helps the taste along.

Yeah thus far Lime/Lemon mixes and drinks seem to be the way to go while smoking or in between cigars, I'm liking allot of the other suggestions though like for instance I think I'll try drambuie the next time I smoke a cigar

I think the verdict is in, I often have a screwdriver with a particular friend who I tend to smoke with, as well, I've also enjoyed the amaretto with gingerale but hadn't thought to use it to complement a cigar (I will be doing this with my next smoke). I also look forward to trying the drambuie/cigar pairing that was suggested earlier.

I'll be sure to post back results at some point and if you're overly anxious I suppose you could try it your selves :p
