Cohiba 35th Anniversario ..for real?

My kid has a boyfriend that just came back from Jamaica with a bunch of Cuban Cohiba 35th Anniversarios. He generously gave me one.
I've been faked out more than once on Cubans.
Anything to look for that would prove it a non Cuban?
And has anyone smoked one? How long do I let it rest/age. The friend just got back from Jamaica 4 days ago.

Crap! I was afraid of that when I first got it last night. The construction didn't impress me and, you're right, the cap is lousy.
I hate to tell my daughter's boyfriend that his buddy got snookered.

I say it especially because of the band. Look at the top....it looks like it was poorly cut. Also, the Cohiba and head are small and off center from the pics I have seen. Also the 3 and 5 are not supposed to be different colors.

But the friend is a young guy and not all that experienced. I hope he didn't buy a lot of them. I know he bought one box.

That's another thing. These were in commemorative humidors, with six different sizes. Not in boxes.

I was just in Jamacia the end of April and saw a buch of these there. I hate to say it, but they are faker than a seven dollar bill.

Lets wrap this up with a really simple lesson...if you personally didnt buy it when it came out, provenance will always be in question. Even when you get an aged stock from a "vendor," you dont know how they got that. There are so many backdoor deals and oneoffs...

If you have a guy that claims to have cigars that are 11yrs old - and it's not a private offering from a personally known/trusted collector - red flags should be going up.

Thanks for the input. My daughter doesn't want me to tell her boyfriend who will then tell his friend who bought them because everyone will feel bad. I told her this is a cigar guy thing and the guy will figure it out eventually when no one likes his "real" Cubans. He needs to know so he doesn't do it again. I got burned twice. Long time ago. And yes, mk, provenance is everything. I'm going to keep this cigar until a mooch wants a free cigar. LOL!

Unless it's an LCDH, their most likely fake in Jamaica, even at the very big resorts. Hell, fakes have been showing up at the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas too, which if I remember correctly, used to be an LCDH. (It is no longer an LCDH though.)
