Yes, I smoke a few CCs as well.
Cohiba Esplendido 2003 - Seleccióón Reserva
0.0 - 2.0 = poor/inferior quality
2.1 - 2.9 = fair
3.0 - 3.5 = good
3.5 - 4.5 = excellent
4.6 - 5.0 = superior
1) Aesthetics: Beautiful Colorado Claro (maple colored) wrapper, exquisite specialty double band, no highly visible veins - this is a gorgeous stick.
Score for aesthetics: 4.8
2) Pre-light Construction: Solid, heavy, and no soft spots, well made cigar.
Score for Pre-light construction: 4.6
3) Post-light Construction/How it smoked: Upon lighting it draws with slight effort, very nice. The crisp burn line produces a greyish, slightly flaky ash that sports some small white bumps (potassium in the soil where grown?). I know some people want a white ash as if thats the only good ash, tish-posh. It did develop a slight crack in the wrapper half-way through, but it didnt affect the burn at all. It was also difficult to keep lit for the last 2 inches. (these last two issues bring the score down a bit)
Score for post-light construction: 3.4
4) Flavor and strength: I thoroughly enjoyed the mix of floral notes, leather, nut, and coffee that flowed in and out of this complex smoke. It wasnt overly powerful, but wonderfully smooth and easy on the palate. The predominant flavors sort of ebbed and waned throughout, giving a nice experience that wasnt boring. I like that.
Score for flavor and strength: 4.7
5) Finish/Aftertaste: It was floral notes and coffee that seems to linger on the palate after a puff, tantalizingly light, yet lingering for a moment. Very pleasant finish.
Score for aftertaste: 4.8
6) Aroma: Again, it was the floral notes with some slight fruitiness that seemed to predominate the room note. I enjoyed this aspect of the smoke quite a bit, as I really like a cigars aroma oftentimes more than the taste. This was a great cigar in that regard.
Score for aroma: 4.9
7) General Comments: Other than the issue of keeping the last couple inches lit, this was an excellent smoke.
