COHIBA MADURO 5 GENIOS (at least a year and a half old)

Length: 5 1/2"
Ring: 52

Appearance/construction: Great color on the wrapper. Construction and draw were top notch. Perfect Burn, and draw.

This cigar interested me as it is something out of the norm for a cc cigar. Upon lighting I immediately was unsure about how this cigar was going to play out. It had hints of the standard Cohiba, but with a twist. The maduro wrapper added a change from the norm, but I did not fall in love with it. The cigar seemed to have the same flavors from head to toe. The cigar was not harsh by any means, and if this flavor profile is somethign you like, then you would prob love this cigar.

In closing: To me the cigar didn't live up to the my high hopes. The price on these cigars are a bit high, and I would never seek them out. That being said I think the combination is either a love it, or leave it thing. I have heard both sides of the coin. To me it was a leave it.

Sums up perfectly my few experiences with this cigar.

If I'm gonna smoke a maduro, it'll be a non-cuban one....they just seem to do a better job with em'. Way overpriced for what you get with these IMO.

I love the magicos from 08. I had 2 boxes from 08 that were like smoking ovaltine. Overpriced but a wonderful cigar. For some reason the genios and secretos never did it for me as much. Thanks for the review.

Thanks for the review. I do think these are overpriced if you are expecting a Maduro similar to NCs... As put in the OP, these are more of a Maduro mixed with Cohiba flavors. For Maduro, I think it is hard to beat the WOAM. Cohibas in general are pricey, but once these are in hand, I find them to be a great stick. Really enjoy the Secretos too, which can taste a bit like cocoa mix (or ovaltine as mentioned above).

So put me in the "love it" camp, and all of you "leave it" campers can offload yours in this general direction!

Nice review. I keep trying these and keep coming to the same conclusion: average. For the price average is disappointing.

This is one cigar that continues to confuse me... Can't get a feel for whether I like it or not. I've had maybe ten or twelve of different sizes and years and they have been either outstanding or just so so...

A local botl gifted me one of each size from the original release... Those were stunning.

Thanks for the excellent review
