For my upcoming trip to Europe I am planning on buying a 3 pack of either the Cohiba Robusto , Siglo II or Siglo IV for enjoyment during my stay. Since I have not tried any of these yet which of these 3 would be the best option especially considering I will be smoking them within days of purchasing them.

I will also plan on getting a 3 pack of PSD4 or H Upmann Connoisseur 1 depending on availability. So ideally it would be a good complement to one of these two.

I appreciate any suggestions in advance.

Thanks for the quick feedback. In all honesty, I am pretty sure that the PSD4 is a slam dunk. I just received a few of these, but I am letting them rest while I am gone , and although I still have not tried one I have heard so much about them that I had to get some.

I have never tried a any of the Cohiba's but my choice is based on getting a good 50 minute to 1 hour smoke while also enjoying an adult beverage. I have read a lot about the Siglo series and I think that the IV might be just about the right size, but I am still hoping to see if there is a preference between the 3. The pity is that I can't see myself having more than 6 cigars during this 10 day trip and I do not want to risk bring any back with me.

I never used to prefer Cohibas unless they had a few years of box age on them. That is until recently I cracked a Dec 09 box of Sig IVs. Pretty damn tasty! It's going to take some serious restraint not to smoke through the box.

If you really want to try Cohiba, my vote goes to Siglo IV since you will most likely be buying young stock. It's a great size and a good example of the series.

Keep in mind, in general the "classic" line of Cohibas (robustos, lanceros, etc.) tend to be medium-full and slightly more spicy. The Siglo line tends to be more medium bodied and creamy. FWIW, I like both!

Much like sg1234, I was never much for Cohibas without some age....but I really enjoyed the '08 CoRos fresh, The Sig IIs have been pretty good as well, so I think you will be good with either.

This is going to be a very interesting trip for me. I really just started to enjoy cigars on a more regular basis. Obviously, almost 100% of my experience comes from NC cigars such as Padron & CAO. So for me this is the first trip where I am actually planning in advance to make a cigar purchase.

I will also admit that I am doing a great deal of research regarding availability and pricing. My biggest fear is that I will truly get hooked on this (for American's) rather esoteric side of this hobby.

I'd go with the CoRo its an industry benchmark and must try then I'd get the PSD4 and wonder why I bother buying other sticks.. smoking cigars is a dilemma.

So I just arrived in Hamburg and so far I have have bought 11 CC. I purchased 4 Cohiba Siglo II and 4 PSD4 at the Amsterdam airport. The prices are a little higher then a source that I am used to , but I was also buying them at the full EU price and not duty free.

Once I arrived in Hamburg I picked up 3 RyJ Short Churchill's from the LCDH. This gives me about 1 CC a day for my stay and unless I end up with an extra two or three sticks I will not try to bring them back with me. Finally, as an observation, Germany seems a tad bit higher (about 1 euro per) then Amsterdam.

Seeing that I will be in Amsterdam in the spring, that sounds like a good option given that during the conference, I may not be able to travel much!

If you remember prices, could you PM so I know what to expect?

Thanks!

p.s. Was the selection good? I want to Bolis, too.

I've flown back to the states a few times and never got checked. Give it a try with a only a couple. Worse they'll do is confiscate them if they do check you.

I'd go for the Cohiba Robusto! The siglo IV is very good too, but not on par with the Robusto. I'v never had a H Upmann C1 so far but the PSD4's are great.

I think you've made some great choices. The R&J are smoking brilliantly and should contrast nicely with the PSD#4. The Sig II will go nicely with a rich OKTOBERFEST bier. Enjoy your trip.

Cheers

Siglo IV is very good and smooth in the first 2/3. Towards the end, it gets spicy but still smooth. I like the CoRo better though. But PSD4 is above both. ;)
