Most of the posts here speak to the latest and greatest which I guess makes a lot of sense. Pardon, then, this digression from the norm.
Just spent an enjoyable hour with an El Rey Del Mundo Rectangulare, which when I was enjoying 2-3 cigars daily, was probably considered
a solid staple in many a humidor. Then, as now, JR Cigars carried the broadest selection of ERDM Vitolas. Today, by the box, they run
about $ 3.30 per stick.
It has been in my humidor about a month, at about 60-65 RH. Delicately wrapped in tissue, the presentation suggests a special gift and
indeed it was that and more.
The light grey-white ash hung on for nearly 30 minutes; the stick offered a thick, rich smoke. I enjoyed it a full hour, til it burned my thumb.
It lit easily, burned evenly without requiring even a slight touch up. The medium (plus) taste never wavered and even to the end, the cigar
never turned bitter or harsh at all. I've had Cuban Montes that couldn't make that boast. Smooth and flavorful, for sure.
Now, at $ 3.30, the fact is the Rectangulare is a bit too expensive as my everyday smoke (a fact some will find amusing and/or amazing);
my "budget" for everyday smokes is ~ $ 2.50 per. The ERDM, like a Padron Londres are reserved for a weekly treat. Somewhere in between
those dailies and a Padron resides the Sancho Panza DM, nearly but not quite inexpensive enough to qualify as a daily, go-to choice.
Today, as I sat on the farmers porch, lulled by a gentle but steady rain, enjoying some peace and quiet, the ERDM Rectangulare was a silent
but pleasurable companion. Even my wife noticed my improved mood when I finally returned indoors.
Hope you Brothers all had an equally great experience today.
