Heard about this today - so unbelievably sad. Apparently the suspect(s) are a couple 15 year old kids. What a waste.

Thoughts are with the entire policing family today.

Here's the transcript of the radio communication from what happened. I couldn't even bring myself to post it here. It's heart wrenching. God bless him, his co workers, and that poor dispatcher that was on the other end of the radio. Can't imagine what a lonely helpless feeling that would be. The audio on that is my absolute worst fear in this job....there are no words...sitting here in tears as I listen.

From the article:
The teen driver from Toronto's York Region, who can't be named because he is underage, is in hospital with serious injuries. The other passengers in the van were also youths and are co-operating with police.
What happened to the kid? Was he shot by police when they arrived?

He took off at high speed, dragging the officer, and then rolled the van, (on top of the officer) shortly there after taking off. Dont even think it was stolen, just an idiot without a licence.

At their news conference, YRP said it was 'taken without owners consent' which likely means one of the kids grabbed dad's keys while he was asleep or something.

What a completely tragic thing to happen. He was a very honorable and upstanding man looking out for those before him. He was worried about others who were injured as he was dying. RIP hero. I will pray for his family.

ahh, I read it wrong. (thinking the officer rolled under the van)

That is extremely sad though. As are the rest of the officer stories at the end of the article

Yep...my thoughts exactly. There needs to be a better judicial system where even Parents can be held accountable.
Tragic and unnessesary!

Those radio transmissions are an absolute nighmare come true. I have been on the receiving end of a phone call to tell me that a fellow officer at my detachment has been killed, I can only imagine the poor officers who heard that call and were helpless to do anything. Racing to that scene and seeing a dying brother there and being able to do nothing to help him.

I hope Cst. Styles will finds peace. My thoughts are with his poor wife and two children.
