True story. Met up w my cigar mentor Sarge (aka Sgt. Retired US Army) in Waco, TX. We took a day trip to my old city of Austin, TX to listen to a jazz band. After arriving in Austin, we stopped at a flea market and he spotted a used humidor on sale for $5. He bought it for me as a gift, handed it to me, and as he walked away, the lady who sold it to him said "Sir, do you want the cigars that came with it? " Sgt didn't hear her, because he's hard of hearing (years of artillery or "blowing shit up" as he says). I turned and said "what cigars?" She proceeded to reach in a plastic shopping bag and pulled out several long metal tubes labeled "Romeo and Julietta". Stunned, I looked for Sgt who was looking at a long table of knives in the distance. I asked how much? She said, "you can have them, I didn't know if I could sell them, so I was just going to throw them away. Here". She took the humidor from me, opened it up and plopped them in. I smiled, thanked her and found Sgt, but said nothing. Later, over a dinner of fried chicken at Gus' Fried chicken, I thank him for the humidor, put it on the table and told him about the cigars. Amazed, I asked him to inspect them for mold or rot. He looked at them and said matter-of-factly they were shit and he needed to smoke each one personally to save me from a horrible fate. We laughed and I said "they're all yours, you're the only guy at the table who smokes Romeo and Juliettas exclusively". We laughed and he accepted the cigars (see photos). All told, we got a $40+ humidor (made in China) and over $100 worth of Romeo and Juliettas for $5. Sgt summed it up nicely "Sometimes, you just take the win!"
The jazz was great, the company even better and an amazing story/memory in my cigar journey. I want to thank the cigar gods, but more so the guy who donated all of this, or maybe his wife. Lmfao!20160409_151033.jpg 20160409_144552.jpg 20160409_144624.jpg
