My dumbass was d/l something off of emule and my HD locked up BAD. Good thing was that I have an old pos HP in the other room collecting dust, so I thought I would just swap HD's and fix the problem.

Didn't work....

The old system was using MS ME and the copy of the MS SP#1&2 were bad copies so I wasn't able to install xp and for some reason ME would'ne read the problem HD at all.

Long story short is that I was able to finally locate a good copy of the MS SP's and install XP and fix my HD. I was really worried that I was going to loose 3 years worth of digital pix of the family. Everything else can be either found again or re-written later. The one thing that I lost was my Mozilla link files. All my :cough: "contacts" are lost. The main ones that I had been using are easily found but some of the more seldom used ones are lost for the time being.

Also lost: Cigar reviews that I have done in office, I'm hoping that if I reinstall it on the master drive I might be able to copy it from the slave and still be able to read it.

Well guys, it's nice to be back and able to key in a response now. I was able to glimpse over things at work on stolen time but wasn't able to do anything else.

Now if I can just get my poop in a group and finish up that Monte thread I started...

Best of luck with this one Rob. Never happened to me thank gaud. I am a person if I press the button and it does not work, my ability to fix it is limited.

It took a HDD crash to finally convince me to buy an external for backing up both my notebook and my desktop. Picked up a WD 120G from Circuit City and now I back up both systems religiously. They are not that expensive and there's no substitute for having been cautious when things finally do go bad (not if, but when).

Glad you're back up and running. If I lost all of my photos, I'd jump from a tall building!

If you still have the old hard drive (the one that crashed and had all the photos/links) you can throw it in the system as a slave drive and recover most of what you need.

You can find your mozilla bookmarks and such in the following location:
C:\Document and Settings\YOU\Application Data\Mozilla

Just copy that whole folder over from the crashed drive to the new one in the same place.
