Was leaving the rink bar last night after a couple post-game beers and saw someone on top of someone else crying. A couple of us dropped our gear and went over and that's when I saw the blood.

I guess the guy who was holding the guy on the ground had punched the injured guy and busted his mouth open and the guy fell and smashed his head on the pavement in the parking lot. Turns out they're brothers.

We took the phone from the guy who couldn't effectively communicate with 911 and got 911 to send emergency services towards us. I managed to get the injured guy's head turned to the side so the blood could drain. The guy was out cold and breathing, steadily, but definitely not well with all the blood.

Finally police and EMS arrived, but the kid was seriously messed up. When I was giving my statement to the police they mentioned that EMS said the guy had split the back of his head open a bit. He's in real bad shape, but should make it. The alcohol wasn't helping the situation.

Absolutely not the situation I wanted to walk into when I walked out of the rink last night. I felt bad I couldn't do anything more for the kid, but I'm only trained to help people who aren't breathing/have no pulse. This kid was still alive, but damn if he wasn't in rough shape.

If any of you can offer some good thoughts and prayers for the kid's recovery, that'd be great. I just hope he's gonna be alright.

Calling 911 and helping with the ABC (airway, breathing, circulation) is all you can do on the street unless trained. Gotta be careful with other peoples blood. Thought and well wishes for the young one.

Inside the rink, this is called "Hockey".

Outside the rink, I believe it's called "Assault".

I could be wrong...
Indeed. At least we wear helmets on the ice. I've gotten my irish up during a game before, but I always leave it on the ice and never take it further than that. It seems like this was more the guys were joking around and one just took it a bit too far, but who knows. Scary for sure.

Anyone who is curious, one brother is in jail, the other is in the ICU now. Hopefully he pulls through.

Wow. This stuff is rediculous. I think sometimes brothers fight and think there will be no discipline because, "well, he's my brother, brother's fight!" This is sad. I wonder what led up to this. Hopefully the guy turns out ok. I feel just as bad for the family too.

Well, just got news today.. the injured guy didn't make it. I guess he died last night.

Got a call from one of the detectives who wants to meet on Monday to go over my statement and ask me some questions.

If anyone can offer some prayers for the family, that'd be great.
