Hey all
As the time draws closer to my impending addition to my family, I find myself smoking through some of the boxes I have not touched yet. Tonight I had the pleasure of smoking from the Cuaba boxes. This particular Salamones was from October of 2005.
Lighting and first third
Upon opening the box the familiar pungent, musty perfume was evident. The stick was firm and oily. On lighting there was also the familiar earthy qualities that I find in all Cuabas. Unlike its older siblings however, there was not an accompanied spiciness that I usually have come to expect. Great draw and loads of smoke. The first third continued with the heavy earthiness that I experienced on lighting. As I hit the midpoint of the cigar ,the flavors moved into a nutty phase.
Halfway
It was almost like a black walnut type taste. Slightly acidic and sour, not bad but nothing I tasted from Cuaba before. From there it moved to more of a chestnut or almond-like flavor.
Last Third
Finally the spice phase! The only twist is it turned salty. There was some peppery flavors, however, the cigar began burning a tad hot so I let the cigar finish its life quietly in the tray.
Overall, good stick, really tasty the first two-thirds. I think that as this ages more, there will be more of a pronounced heavy spicy flavor (at least I hope so.) This is one of the few cigars that sometimes get stronger before getting more mellow. We will see.
I smoked this with a glass of auchentosen 10 year (the best single malt in the world!)
